New York City, August 1, 2024 – The city’s popular Summer Streets program kicked off today with its largest expansion yet, spanning all five boroughs for the first time. Major streets in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island were closed to traffic, transforming them into pedestrian-friendly zones with activities, pop-up shops, and performances.
“This is about reclaiming our streets for the people,” said Mayor Eric Adams. Families enjoyed bike rides, outdoor yoga, and live music as they explored their neighborhoods car-free. The program will continue every Saturday in August.
