Long Island opera singer Christopher Macchio will sing the national anthem at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration next week.

Who is Macchio?

Back story:

Macchio, a Long Island native, first caught President Trump’s attention on New Year’s Eve 2014 and has performed for him numerous times since.

“He compared my voice to the legendary Luciano Pavarotti and said, ‘You have a great voice, I can’t tell which one is better,'” Macchio said.

The classical crossover vocalist will take over the honor from Lady Gaga, who sang the national anthem at President Biden’s 2021 swearing-in ceremony. He joins the ranks of artists who have had the privilege of singing for presidents, including Beyoncé and the late Jessye Norman.

Mathio said. fox 5 The idea was to sneak onto the stage at Sachem High School in Lake Ronkonkoma during lunch break. He also said this is where he found his voice and where he performed in Sweeney Todd as a student.

“From elementary school to high school, I had two nicknames: Donald Trump and Mr. President,” Macchio said.

The nickname stems from his fashion sense and precocious political awareness, and Macchio now sings for the man who embodies those names.

“The girl on the phone said, ‘I heard from the president himself that you were his first choice and only choice to sing the national anthem, and I wanted to tell you.’ “I yelled YES and banged on the marble countertop in the kitchen 20 times and said YES,” Macio said.

“I’m just trying to bring music to people in a way that has an emotional impact on them,” Macchio said.

“I never forgot where I came from,” said Chris Vaccaro, founder and president of the Zachem Alumni Association.

The Zachem community will witness his journey, more than 300 miles away, on a grand scale for the honor of a lifetime.

“I want to join the pantheon of artists who have had this privilege before me and do justice,” Macchio said.
