NYPD Officers Involved in Fatal Shooting on Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND – A man described as ‘dangerous and armed’ was shot and killed by New York Police Department officers early Thursday morning in Staten Island. Authorities reported the incident occurred around 5:19 a.m. in a parking lot of a Home Depot located in the Tottenville neighborhood.
Incident Details
Police were dispatched to the scene following reports of a man situated inside a Jeep with a firearm. Upon their arrival, officers reportedly heard multiple gunshots being fired.
Officers attempted to persuade the 55-year-old man to display his hands and surrender his weapon; however, these efforts were unsuccessful. According to officials, the situation escalated when the man aimed his gun at the officers.
In response, officers discharged their firearms, hitting the suspect multiple times. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Law enforcement confirmed that a firearm was recovered from the scene.
Response and Injuries
Following the incident, two officers were taken to a medical facility for evaluation due to experiencing ringing in their ears, a common occurrence after discharging firearms in close proximity.
