The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) launched its highly anticipated Next Wave Festival on October 13, 2024, showcasing cutting-edge performances in theater, dance, music, and multimedia art. The month-long festival has long been a cornerstone of NYC’s cultural calendar, bringing together experimental works from both emerging and established artists.

“This year’s festival is about pushing boundaries and reimagining storytelling,” said BAM Artistic Director David Binder. The opening night performance featured an immersive, technology-driven dance piece by an international collective that used augmented reality to blend the physical and virtual worlds.

The festival lineup includes over 20 productions, such as a theatrical adaptation of a sci-fi novel, a contemporary opera exploring themes of migration, and a multimedia concert combining live music with visual projections. Panels and workshops will provide attendees with opportunities to engage with the artists and learn about their creative processes.

BAM’s Next Wave Festival has earned a reputation for its bold programming and commitment to innovation, drawing audiences eager to experience art at the forefront of creativity. With sold-out shows and rave reviews, this year’s festival is poised to leave a lasting impact on the NYC arts scene.
