New York City, June 27, 2024 – The MTA unveiled a $1 billion plan to improve accessibility across the subway system, including the installation of elevators at 20 additional stations by 2028. The project also includes funding for tactile maps and upgraded signage for visually impaired riders.

“This is a victory for all New Yorkers who rely on public transit,” said Disability Rights Advocate Rebecca Chen. Critics, however, called for a faster timeline to address the system’s accessibility gaps.
