The City Council passed landmark legislation today granting gig workers, including delivery drivers and rideshare operators, new protections such as minimum pay standards and paid sick leave. The move is a major victory for labor advocates who have fought for years to improve working conditions in the gig economy.

“This law recognizes the essential contributions of gig workers to our city,” said Council Member Carlos Menchaca, who sponsored the bill. Major gig companies are expected to challenge the policy in court.
