Mayor Eric Adams announced today an expansion of the city’s Vision Zero program, aimed at reducing traffic fatalities. The new measures include additional speed cameras near schools, redesigned intersections, and dedicated pedestrian zones in high-traffic areas.
“Every life lost on our streets is one too many,” Adams said during a press conference in Queens. “These changes will make our city safer for everyone.”
The program’s expansion comes after a report showed a slight increase in pedestrian injuries in 2023. Advocacy groups praised the initiative but called for more enforcement of traffic laws to complement the infrastructure upgrades.
