Long Island, NY – Egress Pros®, a Long Island-based company founded in 2013 by general contractor Glen Dauman, has contributed significantly to basement safety through the design, manufacture, and installation of emergency egress window systems. The company’s origin was shaped by a moment during a fire safety training session, where Dauman and his then-14-year-old son, Alex, a junior volunteer firefighter, observed the challenges posed by insufficient basement escape routes. This experience influenced the creation of more accessible egress solutions designed with emergency use in mind.
At the time the company was launched, federal regulations did not yet require egress windows in finished basements. Many products available lacked functionality and ease of use during emergencies. Designs commonly included crank handles, interior-mounted screens, and outward-opening windows that limited exit space. In response, Dauman began developing systems that would comply with safety codes while improving usability. His efforts predated the 2015 adoption of International Residential Code (IRC) R310 by two years.
In partnership with his son, Dauman introduced a system that emphasized user accessibility, resilience, and functionality. The result was an emergency escape solution designed for broader real-life utility, including ease of operation by children and older individuals under pressure.
From its 10,000-square-foot facility at 21A Edison Avenue in West Babylon, New York, Egress Pros® maintains inventory to support its installation teams and independent contractors, enabling efficient delivery and timely installation for homeowners across the region.
The company’s egress windows are intended to serve as emergency exits during incidents like fires or floods and to provide responders with entry access when necessary. Designed to be operated with minimal effort, the window system can be fully opened quickly, and the Egress Pros exclusive sliding screen component is engineered for fast removal, reducing potential delays during high-stress situations.
Among its safety-focused efforts, Egress Pros® developed a patented training system used by fire academies in two counties. This system enables responders to simulate basement rescues using the company’s emergency escape system. By assisting in responder training, the company continues to support emergency preparedness efforts in the community.
Family-owned and operated, Egress Pros® maintains ties to its local area while also engaging with regional safety and construction professionals. Through its combined roles in manufacturing and safety education, the company contributes to awareness and implementation of effective basement safety measures.
“Ensuring that families are equipped with the tools they need to stay safe has always been our priority,” said Glen Dauman, founder and president of Egress Pros®. “Our egress windows are built to provide a reliable and efficient escape route during critical moments for years to come.”
Over the past decade, the company has also expanded its services to include consulting on retrofitting older homes, advising on new construction compliance, and providing systems developed with both safety and usability in mind.
As residential safety awareness continues to grow, solutions like egress window systems are increasingly incorporated into home design. Egress Pros® continues to support this progress by offering practical solutions guided by safety standards and real-world functionality.
