Director Edgar Wright and actor Glen Powell have unveiled the first trailer for their upcoming adaptation of Stephen Kings dystopian novel The Running Man. Set for release on November 7, 2025, the film promises a more faithful rendition of Kings original narrative, diverging from the 1987 film adaptation.

In this reimagined version, Powell portrays Ben Richards, a desperate father who enters a deadly game show to secure funds for his ailing daughter. The show, a top-rated television spectacle, challenges contestants, known as Runners, to evade professional assassins for 30 days, with increasing cash prizes as incentives. Richards defiance and resourcefulness quickly make him a fan favorite, posing a threat to the corrupt system that orchestrates the show.

The ensemble cast includes Josh Brolin as the ruthless producer Dan Killian, Colman Domingo as the charismatic host Bobby Thompson, Lee Pace as the masked assassin Evan McCone, and Michael Cera as Elton Parrakis, a rebel aiding Richards. Additional cast members are Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, Katy OBrian, Jayme Lawson, Daniel Ezra, and Karl Glusman.

Wright, known for films like Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver, co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Bacall. The director expressed his long-standing desire to adapt Kings novel, aiming to capture the intense, dangerous journey of Richards as he navigates a dystopian America. Filming took place in various international locations, including London and Glasgow, to depict the expansive world envisioned in the novel.

The production has garnered attention for its commitment to authenticity and physicality. Powell underwent rigorous training, even consulting with Tom Cruise for guidance on performing his own stunts. The actor described the role as the most physically demanding of his career, surpassing his experiences in Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters.

The film has received endorsements from both Stephen King and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the star of the 1987 adaptation. Schwarzenegger offered his full blessing after a FaceTime call with Powell and Wright, facilitated by his son, Patrick.

The Running Man is scheduled to premiere in theaters on November 7, 2025, sharing its release date with Predator: Badlands, promising a thrilling day for action movie enthusiasts.
