Honda Recall Alert: Acura MDX Vehicles Affected by Lighting Issue
Honda has issued a recall for over 150,000 vehicles in the United States, specifically targeting the 2014 to 2020 Acura MDX models. This action is necessitated by a significant lighting malfunction that could compromise driver safety.
Details of the Recall
According to a notice published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem arises when moisture infiltrates the tailgate lid light assembly and wiring harness. This flaw can lead to multiple lighting failures, affecting exterior and interior lights, including position lights, tail lights, and license plate lights.
“Loss of the exterior light function reduces the vehicle’s visibility to other drivers and increases the risk of a crash,” the NHTSA states in its report.
Statistics and Impact
As of April 10, Honda has reported 3,871 warranty claims related to this lighting issue. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or accidents stemming from this specific concern. The total number of vehicles recalled stands at 152,800.
Next Steps for Affected Owners
The planned course of action includes inspections of the wiring and the installation of a new fuse harness, as well as necessary repairs to the lid light and body dust sealer. These services will be provided at no cost to the vehicle owners.
Drivers who own affected models can expect to receive notification letters by May 27, 2025. For additional inquiries, Acura customer service can be reached at 1-800-382-2238, and reference will be made to recall number FLI.
