Police said the driver of the pickup truck was illegally passing another vehicle when he braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with Lacy. A 2017 Kia Cadenza was behind the pickup truck, which also swerved to the left to avoid colliding with Lacy. However, while attempting to avoid a collision, the Cadenza crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2017 Kia Sorento traveling southbound, authorities said.
According to a Louisiana State Police report, Lacey drove around the scene of the accident and fled south on Route 20 without stopping to call for help, call emergency services or report his involvement. It is said that he did.
