Crime in the City Full Episodes: January 10, 2025
We’re only a few days into 2025, but New York City has already seen some horrific crimes. FOX 5 NY’s Dan Bowens breaks down some of the biggest crime headlines, including a mass shooting in Queens, a postal worker stabbed to death in Harlem, and a spike in subway violence.
brooklyn – A man was shot and killed Sunday while driving in Brooklyn, police said.
When did the shooting occur?
What we know:
The shooting happened on Utica Avenue in East Flatbush just before 1 p.m.
Police said a 25-year-old man was shot in the left arm.
The suspect then fled the scene in a van heading east on Snyder Street.
The man was taken to King County Hospital, where he died, police said.
Where are the suspects?
What we don’t know:
The NYPD is currently searching for the suspect. The name of the 25-year-old man who was shot has not been released.
The motive for the shooting is unknown.
New York City crime statistics: 2023-2024
According to New York City Police Department StatisticsOverall crime in New York City in 2024 was down about 3% year-to-date compared to 2023.
The number of murders decreased by 3.8% from 390 in 2023 to 375 last year. Burglaries and robberies also decreased.
“By 2024, there will be thousands fewer victims of serious crimes, including shootings, murders, robberies, and other acts of violence, but we need to keep New Yorkers safe, feel safe, and improve their living conditions. There’s still a lot of work to be done. Their overall quality of life will improve over the next year,” said Police Chief Jessica Tisch.
But it wasn’t all good news. The city saw an 18.7% increase in rapes and a 4.9% increase in felony assaults.
According to , felony assaults on subways and public transportation increased by 65% from 2019 to 2024. MTA. In 2019, 374 felony assaults were reported; in 2024, 579 were reported.
