Starting today, all New York Public Library branches will offer expanded weekend hours as part of a $10 million initiative to improve access to educational resources. The change comes after years of advocacy from community leaders, who cited the need for longer hours in underserved neighborhoods.
“This is about equity and opportunity,” said NYPL President Tony Marx. “By extending hours, we’re ensuring that every New Yorker has the chance to learn, grow, and succeed.”
The expanded schedule includes Sunday openings at select locations, with new programs like STEM workshops and family reading hours being introduced. The initiative has been widely welcomed by residents, particularly students and working parents.
