NYC Commemorates National First Responders Day

by NY Review Team

New York City paid tribute to its first responders on October 26, 2024, with a series of events honoring the bravery and sacrifice of those who serve the city in emergency services. From firefighters and police officers to paramedics and emergency medical technicians, the celebration highlighted the essential role these individuals play in keeping New Yorkers safe.
“First responders are the backbone of our city, and today we celebrate their unwavering commitment to protecting our communities,” said Mayor Eric Adams at a ceremony held at City Hall. The event included awards recognizing outstanding service, with tributes to responders who went above and beyond during emergencies, including Hurricane Fiona recovery efforts and life-saving interventions across the city.
Citywide, firehouses, precincts, and EMS stations hosted open houses, giving families the chance to meet first responders, explore emergency vehicles, and learn about fire safety and CPR. A memorial event at the 9/11 Memorial Plaza honored fallen first responders with moments of silence and wreath-laying ceremonies.
Residents expressed deep gratitude, noting that the day served as a reminder of the selflessness displayed by first responders every day. The celebration concluded with a parade along the Hudson River, featuring marching bands, rescue vehicles, and community members cheering for the city’s heroes.
