Mayor Eric Adams announced an expansion of the city’s Green Roof Initiative today, aiming to install vegetation on 1,000 additional rooftops by 2026. The program, designed to reduce urban heat and improve air quality, prioritizes schools and residential buildings in underserved neighborhoods.

“Green roofs are a win for our environment and our communities,” Adams said at the launch event in the South Bronx. The initiative also includes workshops to teach building owners about eco-friendly retrofitting options.
