The New York City Department of Health launched a fleet of mobile clinics today to provide addiction treatment and harm reduction services in neighborhoods hardest hit by the opioid epidemic. The clinics offer free naloxone, counseling, and access to medication-assisted treatment.
“Every overdose is preventable,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan. “These clinics bring life-saving resources directly to the communities that need them most.”
The initiative is part of the city’s broader strategy to reduce overdose deaths, which reached a record high in 2023. Community leaders praised the program but called for additional investments in long-term recovery services.
