New Yorkers gathered at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum on September 11, 2024, to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks. The solemn ceremony included the reading of victims’ names, moments of silence marking the times of the attacks, and performances by the NYPD and FDNY choirs.
“We remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the resilience that defines this city,” said Mayor Eric Adams during the ceremony. Family members of the victims laid flowers at the memorial pools, while attendees observed the Tribute in Light, which illuminated the Manhattan skyline as a beacon of remembrance and hope.
