The New York Road Runners (NYRR) hosted their largest-ever pre-race training event on September 22, 2024, as over 15,000 runners took part in a 20-mile test run spanning all five boroughs. The event, held in preparation for the TCS NYC Marathon in November, allowed participants to experience sections of the iconic course while testing their endurance ahead of race day.
“This is the ultimate test run,” said race director Ted Metellus. “It’s an opportunity for runners to build their confidence and prepare for the challenges of the marathon.” Hydration stations, cheering crowds, and volunteer support along the route mirrored the experience of race day, creating a festive and motivational atmosphere.
Runners praised the event for its inclusivity and organization, with first-timers and seasoned marathoners alike enjoying the opportunity to train in a supportive environment. Many participants shared stories of personal triumph, with some running to honor loved ones or to raise funds for charitable causes.
As the countdown to the NYC Marathon continues, the pre-race training run has become a cherished tradition, bringing together the running community and building excitement for one of the world’s most prestigious races.
