The New York City Department of Education launched a groundbreaking pilot program today, integrating AI-based tutoring into classrooms across 20 public schools. The program aims to provide personalized learning experiences for students, particularly in math and reading.
The AI tutors, powered by adaptive learning technology, analyze students’ progress and tailor lessons to their individual needs. “This is about leveraging technology to close the achievement gap,” said Schools Chancellor David Banks.
Parents and educators welcomed the initiative, though some raised concerns about data privacy and the potential for over-reliance on technology. The pilot will be evaluated next year for potential citywide expansion.
