The MTA temporarily shut down the city’s oldest subway line, the IRT Lexington Avenue Line (4, 5, 6 trains), for extensive repairs this weekend. Crews are addressing long-overdue upgrades to tracks, signals, and ventilation systems on the century-old line.

The closure affects service between Grand Central and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, with shuttle buses in place to accommodate riders. “We understand this is inconvenient, but these repairs are critical to ensuring safety and reliability,” said MTA Chair Janno Lieber.

The work is part of the MTA’s $50 billion capital improvement plan. Full service is expected to resume Monday morning.
