The Los Angeles Fire Department, in collaboration with the LAPD, has arrested a 38-year-old man suspected of starting a series of arson fires across North Hollywood. The suspect, who was apprehended late last night, allegedly set fire to at least eight commercial properties over the past month.
Surveillance footage from nearby businesses helped identify the suspect, who reportedly used accelerants to ignite the flames. “This individual put countless lives and businesses at risk, and we’re relieved to have him off the streets,” said LAPD Detective Laura Simmons. The fires have caused extensive property damage, but no casualties have been reported.
The arrest is a significant relief to the local business community, which had been in fear of further attacks. However, it raises concerns about the increasing prevalence of arson as a criminal activity in urban areas. Fire officials are urging businesses to take precautionary measures to safeguard against future threats.
