new york – The Teamsters union will begin the largest strike against Amazon in U.S. history starting Thursday, December 19th at 6 a.m. EST.
Thousands of Amazon workers across the country are demanding higher wages, better benefits and safer working conditions because the company refuses to negotiate with unionized employees. I would quit my job.
“If your package gets delayed during the holidays, you can blame Amazon’s insatiable greed,” Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien said. “These greedy business owners had every opportunity to show courtesy and respect to those who made their illegal profits possible. Instead, they pushed workers to the limit and now they are paying the price. This strike is aimed at them.”
Workers plan to strike at several major Amazon facilities across the United States, including DBK4 in Queens.
Workers demand fair treatment
Amazon, the second-largest company on the Fortune 500 list with a valuation of more than $2 trillion, has faced criticism for allegedly underpaying its employees.
“I’ve seen the Teamsters win big battles,” said Dia Ortiz, who works at DBK4 in New York. “We’re ready to do what it takes to win this game.”
With the strike starting less than a week until Christmas, consumers are likely to experience shipping delays over the holiday season.
