Nine Arrested in Florida Tied to MS-13 Cold Case Murders
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the arrest of three additional suspects linked to the notorious MS-13 gang, contributing to a total of nine individuals apprehended in relation to a series of cold case murders in Florida.
Operation Shadow of the Beast Underway
During a press conference held on Friday, federal authorities elaborated on a multi-agency initiative known as Operation Shadow of the Beast. The operation has connected nine suspects with connections to MS-13 to four homicide cases across Broward and Palm Beach counties.
These criminal investigations date back to 2014 and 2015. Among the more shocking incidents was one where a man suffered over 100 stab wounds before being shot in the head.
Of those arrested, five have already accepted guilty pleas, and a sixth individual was found guilty following a trial.
A total of nine suspected members of MS-13 have now been arrested in connection with four murders in South Florida, according to federal prosecutors.

The latest apprehensions involve three individuals residing illegally in the United States:
- Jose Ezequiel Gamez-Maravilla, captured in Lake County, Florida
- Hugo Adiel Bermudez-Martinez, arrested in Minnesota
- Wilber Rosendo Navarro-Escobar, taken into custody in North Lauderdale, Florida
Defining MS-13’s Threat Level
Attorney General Bondi characterized MS-13 as more than just a street gang, labeling them a “highly organized terrorist organization.” She emphasized the group’s role in funneling drugs, firearms, and violence into the United States, stating:
“They’re not just a street gang. They are a highly organized terrorist organization.”
Bondi also mentioned the recent capture of Josue Villatoro Santos, a prominent figure within MS-13, who was found with weapons and silencers upon his arrest.
A Warning Against Gang Activities
During the conference, Bondi cautioned remaining gang affiliates in the U.S. of impending crackdowns, stating:
“If you are a gang member in this country, I would self-deport right now because we are coming after you.”
Potential Sentences for the Accused
Each of the newly apprehended suspects faces severe legal ramifications, including life imprisonment if convicted of murder. This heightened law enforcement activity highlights the ongoing battle against gang violence in the region.
