James Van Der Beek Unmasked as Griffin on The Masked Singer

LOS ANGELES – The latest episode of The Masked Singer showcased the exciting “Group B Finals,” where contestants took on the challenge of performing iconic country classics.

Performance Highlights

During the episode, the remaining contestants from Group B, known as Pearl, Griffin, and Boogie Woogie, delivered standout performances featuring beloved tracks such as:

  • “Here You Come Again”
  • “Take Me Home, Country Roads”
  • “Something In The Water”

Despite the impressive performances, Griffin was ultimately unmasked and eliminated from the competition.

Who is Griffin?

Following his reveal, Griffin was identified as James Van Der Beek, a well-known figure from the ’90s television landscape, celebrated for his roles in productions like “Dawson’s Creek” and “Varsity Blues.”

“I have always loved to sing,” Van Der Beek, 48, reflected with the audience. “I thought I would be a singer. I thought I would be on Broadway.”

He humorously added, “Then when I was 20, I accidentally became a teen idol, so that plan went out the window.”

Health Journey and Family Support

This year has marked significant challenges for Van Der Beek as he battles colorectal cancer. He shared candidly about his health struggles:

“So to put on a mask and inhabit a character and connect with an audience just with a song and be that connecting tissue between me and y’all, it’s been just a blast.”

Highlighting the emotional moment, his six children, alongside his wife Kimberly, surprised him on stage after his performance. Van Der Beek expressed his enthusiasm for singing, stating, “Singing is the one thing I’ve never gotten to do, and I was like, ya know what, this looks like a lot of fun.”

Looking Forward

Next week’s episode of The Masked Singer promises to be festive, with “carnival night” on the agenda. Contestants from Group C will showcase their talents performing popular songs including:

  • “Hot To Go”
  • “Jump Around”
  • “Roxanne”
