Officials shared aerial video on Wednesday A police officer is seen chasing an assault suspect driving the wrong way on a highway across Marin County.

The police pursuit took place Monday and began at Rohnert Park near Sonoma State University.

Police say the suspect is wanted on suspicion of assault.

Back story:

According to the San Rafael Police Department, Rohnert Park officers were pursuing a man wanted by authorities for assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon in a vehicle. According to police, the alleged assault occurred on Saturday.

On Monday, the suspect’s vehicle was spotted at an automated license plate reader on East Cotati Street, authorities said. When Rohnert Park police officers attempted to stop the suspect, later identified as Casey Joseph Beck, 36, of Antioch, the suspect allegedly attempted to ram his patrol car with his vehicle.

Police said the suspect then fled the area and began driving south on Route 101. At that point, CHP spotted the vehicle and began pursuing the suspect through Marin County. Once the man arrived on Lucas Valley Road near San Rafael, he began driving the wrong way on the highway, authorities said.

While driving the wrong way, a Sonoma Sheriff’s helicopter began pursuing the driver from above, and the Highway Patrol stopped the pursuit.

San Rafael Police and CHP stopped northbound traffic at the US-101 and I-580 interchange while the driver continued to drive the wrong way.

Police arrested Beck after a brief standoff, authorities said. He was treated for a minor leg injury before being taken to jail, police said. No one else was injured in the police chase.

A four-minute helicopter video shared Wednesday shows the suspect driving the wrong way on the highway, weaving between lanes and avoiding cars. Later in the video, he is seen driving on the shoulder of the highway.

At one point, police said the suspect was driving toward a vehicle that was being witnessed in a pursuit. San Rafael police said officers were able to “intervene” and the other driver’s life was saved.

“Witnesses and onlookers credit CHP and SRPD officers with saving lives from this dangerous suspect.” San Rafael Police said in a social media post. “We also thank the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Henry 1 crew for tracking and coordinating the suspect’s arrest by air. The teamwork, courage, and professionalism of the law enforcement officers involved should be commended. handling of this incident. ”
