Waldo Mejia, who was arrested and charged Friday with stabbing a 14-year-old boy to death in the Bronx, has an extensive criminal record.

The 29-year-old, who has a history of mental illness, was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Mejia has an extensive criminal history dating back to 2015, with four arrests for robbery, arson and gun possession, and a 2024 arrest for allegedly stabbing another victim’s Ring camera with a kitchen knife. He was released on his own recognizance the next day.

Police say 14-year-old Caleb Rios was standing on the corner outside the Mitchell House in Mott Haven on Friday morning when an assailant approached him and stabbed him unprovoked.

The boy was found unconscious and taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mejia lives right next door to the boy’s family and across the street from the 40th Precinct, the newspaper said.

A 38-year-old man was randomly stabbed from behind on the subway stairs at the 138th Street Third Avenue station on Sunday, police said. The victim was stabbed in the arm but is expected to be OK.
