According to multiple reports, singer Brenton Wood, known for his “Woogom Bugom Song,” has passed away. He was 83 years old.
According to varietyWood’s manager said he died of natural causes in Moreno Valley, California, surrounded by his family.
His final words to fans were “Catch You on the Rebound,” a reference to Wood’s song of the same name.
Wood was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and later moved to California with his family. Wood’s birth name was Alfred Jesse Smith. His interest in music began at Compton College, where he adopted the stage name Brenton Wood.
He signed with Double Shot Records in 1967. In the same year, “The Oogum Boogum Song” was released.. The hit peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard R&B chart, but became a well-known oldie thanks to TV shows and movies like “The Umbrella Academy,” “Almost Famous,” and “Don’t Worry Darling.” It remains.

Wood’s other hits include “Gimme Little Sign” and “Baby You Got It.”
Wood founded his own record label in 1972.
Variety reported that Wood began his farewell tour, “Catch You on the Rebound: The Last Tour,” but it was put on hold due to a recent hospitalization.
