Bob Mould Kicks Off U.S. Solo Electric Tour in Lewiston

by NY Review Contributor

Veteran alternative rock musician Bob Mould officially launched the U.S. leg of his 2025 tour with an electrifying solo performance on July 30 at the Earl W. Brydges Artpark State Park in Lewiston, New York. The show marked the first full American date on his current run, supporting his acclaimed new album Here We Go Crazy, which debuted in March.

The Lewiston performance was part of a series of intimate solo electric shows, allowing fans to hear Mould’s iconic sound in a more stripped-down format. With only his guitar and a setlist that spanned his extensive career, Mould delivered a high-intensity yet personal concert experience, staying true to the raw, emotional energy that has defined his music for over four decades.

While the summer portion of the tour includes a handful of dates in the Northeast—such as Haddon, New Jersey, and Kingston, New York—it will soon transition into a more extensive fall schedule. This autumn leg will bring Mould to cities across the country, including Berkeley, Phoenix, Chicago, and Minneapolis, as he brings his signature mix of punk urgency and melodic craft to a wide variety of venues.

Several of the fall tour dates will feature special guests, including solo performances from fellow post-hardcore pioneer J. Robbins during the East Coast stops. In Charleston, West Virginia, Mould will be joined by The Baseball Project and Loose Cattle for a special collaborative event, giving fans a unique opportunity to see several acclaimed musicians share the stage. Later in the fall, David Barbe—longtime collaborator and former Sugar bandmate—will join Mould for the Midwest portion of the tour, beginning September 30 and concluding with a final performance in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 11.

This tour also marks a continuation of Mould’s presence at major festivals earlier in the year. Notably, he performed at the Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival in Las Vegas over Memorial Day weekend, offering a preview of his solo electric format. Critics and fans have responded positively to the new material from Here We Go Crazy, which combines the reflective songwriting of his recent work with the intensity of his earlier punk roots.

Mould has described this tour format as an opportunity to present songs from across his discography in a more intimate setting. “It’s just me and my guitar, but the energy is still there,” Mould said in a recent press statement. “This setup gives me the space to play songs that haven’t been in the set for years. It’s a deeper dive into the music.”

Throughout the tour, audiences can expect a mix of songs from Mould’s solo catalog, his influential 1980s band Hüsker Dü, and the 1990s power-pop trio Sugar. The minimalist setup enhances the emotional core of his songwriting, while allowing room for improvisation and spontaneity.

As an artist who has continually evolved while staying grounded in his punk and indie roots, Mould remains a compelling live performer. His influence on generations of alternative and indie musicians continues to resonate, and this tour is both a celebration of his legacy and a testament to his ongoing creative drive.

With strong critical reception for his latest album and a refreshed live approach, Bob Mould’s 2025 tour offers fans new and longtime alike a chance to reconnect with one of alt-rock’s most enduring voices.
