During his visit on April 14, Mayor Adams met with local authorities, including police, before visiting the site of the Jet Set club. In total, 231 victims have been reported, an increase from previous counts. Rescue operations successfully saved 189 individuals, with 12 still hospitalized, three of whom remain in critical condition.

Welcomed by Victor D’Aza, president of the Dominican Municipal League, the mayor was reminded of the urgent need for enhanced compliance with building regulations and construction oversight. “This has to be a lesson for more effective supervision, for rigor in compliance with the rules. This is a wake-up call,” D’Aza told the Associated Press.
