Beatrix Guedes’ Moonlander Studios launches London division, fostering creative co-productions between UK, Europe, and U.S.

In November 2025, Moonlander Studios, the Los Angeles-based production company founded by award-winning filmmaker Beatrix Guedes, expanded its global reach with the launch of a new division in London. This marks a significant step in the company’s mission to increase its international footprint and champion diverse narratives in cinema through strategic co-productions across borders.

The Vision Behind Moonlander Studios

Beatrix Guedes has long been recognized for her innovative approach to filmmaking, combining surrealism with rich emotional storytelling. With a background in fashion photography, production design and experimental storytelling, Beatrix has shaped Moonlander Studios into a creative force focused on original, boundary-pushing cinema. The studio is driven by its dedication to producing meaningful, female-led narratives that challenge conventional norms.

Moonlander Studios stands out for its ability to blend art, design, and cinema into visually unique films. The London division represents an exciting new chapter in the company’s global expansion, reflecting Moonlander’s ongoing commitment to creating impactful content and pushing the boundaries of traditional filmmaking, focusing on developing and producing indie authorial arthouse films and series.

A Focus on International Co-Productions

The new London division will help strengthen Moonlander’s international co-production efforts. Recognizing the value of cross-border collaboration, the studio aims to produce high-quality films that transcend regional boundaries. Through this expansion, Moonlander plans to build deeper partnerships between the UK, Europe, and the U.S., amplifying its global reach.

At the forefront of this international strategy is The Caterpillar, a surrealist feature written and directed by Beatrix Guedes. This co-production between the UK, Sweden, and the Czech Republic will bring together a distinguished team, including Emmy Award-winning executive producer Cecilia Salgueiro and producers Teia Kane (USA), René Ezra (Sweden), Kevan Thompson (Czech Republic) and Mike Garrod (UK) . The film will explore intricate, female-driven narratives, continuing Beatrix’s exploration of complex, multidimensional characters.

The Caterpillar builds on the momentum of Rupert, Beatrix Guedes’ award-winning indie that swept through the international festival circuit — winning Best Screenplay at the Berlin Independent Film Festival and collecting nominations across Cannes, Venice, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Barcelona, Tokyo and London. Rupert marked a turning point for Moonlander, proving that Beatrix’s surreal, character-driven storytelling resonates worldwide.

“I’m thrilled about the opportunity to build meaningful collaborations between the UK, Europe, and the U.S. through The Caterpillar and other projects,” says Beatrix. “The goal is to create films that push boundaries and empower female voices, fostering more inclusive and dynamic storytelling.”

Expanding the Slate: Crystalina and More

In addition to The Caterpillar, Moonlander is also packaging Crystalina, a high-concept sci-fi drama that has already attracted attention in the industry –  being a finalist at the Tribeca Film Institute/ Sloan Fund and ranked one of the Top projects by Women Film Makers in Hollywood –  Written and produced by Beatrix Guedes, Crystalina is a USA–UK–Iceland co-production directed by Peter Webber, known for his work on Girl with a Pearl Earring and Hannibal Rising. The film focuses on a female protagonist grappling with the aftermath of extraterrestrial contact, blending emotional depth with scientific inquiry.

Moonlander is also working on other exciting projects, including The Whispering Garden, a period drama set in 1920s London, and Archipelago, a noir biotech thriller, both of which will be co-productions between the UK and Sweden. These projects further reinforce Moonlander’s dedication to creating unique and high-quality content in the international industry .

Why Moonlander Studios Stands Out

Moonlander Studios distinguishes itself through its commitment to originality and artistic vision. Unlike traditional production companies, Moonlander focuses on creating deeply personal cinematic worlds that push the boundaries of storytelling. Its commitment to female-driven narratives, surreal aesthetics, and innovative filmmaking ensures its projects stand out in an oversaturated industry.

Every project begins with authorship. Moonlander develops original IP, shaping it from concept to execution, and we collaborate globally with a strong focus on co-productions.

“Moonlander was built on a foundation of creative freedom and collaboration,” Beatrix explains. “We don’t just make films, we create worlds. Every project is developed with a distinct vision and nurtured through collaboration with a diverse, global team.”

By embracing cross-border partnerships, Moonlander Studios is able to tap into a wider range of resources and talent, resulting in films that are both culturally rich and globally relevant. This international approach positions Moonlander as an influential player in the independent film industry.

The Future of Moonlander Studios

As Moonlander Studios continues to grow, Beatrix and her team are focused on expanding their presence across Europe, especially in Scandinavia. With an increasing slate of projects and a strong global demand for their distinct storytelling, Moonlander is poised to remain at the forefront of independent cinema.

“We are just getting started,” Beatrix says with optimism. “The launch of our London division is the first step in a larger global strategy. Our goal is clear: to create films and stories that resonate with audiences, challenge perceptions, and inspire positive change.”
