The New York City Department of Education announced a groundbreaking program today to provide free breakfast and lunch to all public school students year-round, including during summer breaks. The initiative, funded by the state and federal government, aims to combat food insecurity among children.
“No child should ever go hungry in New York City,” said Schools Chancellor David Banks. “This program ensures every student has the nutrition they need to learn and thrive.”
Parents and advocacy groups applauded the move, noting the significant relief it offers to low-income families. The program will begin this summer, with meals available at over 1,000 distribution sites.
