LOS ANGELES, CA — On March 19, 2024, hip-hop legend Dr. Dre was honored with the 2,775th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, celebrating his influential career as a producer, rapper, and entrepreneur. The ceremony took place at 6840 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the Jimmy Kimmel Studios, with the star fittingly placed next to that of his longtime collaborator and friend, Snoop Dogg.
The event was emceed by radio personality Big Boy and featured heartfelt speeches from Snoop Dogg and music mogul Jimmy Iovine. Snoop Dogg, reflecting on their decades-long partnership, remarked, “There would be no Snoop without Dre. Together, we created magic in the studio, and our collaborations have left a lasting mark on the world of music.”
Dr. Dre, born Andre Romell Young, expressed gratitude to his fans and collaborators, stating, “I’m incredibly grateful for your support throughout the years. Most of us have grown up together. And at nearly 60 years old, you’re still rocking with me, and I really appreciate that.”
The ceremony was attended by several of Dre’s protégés and collaborators, including Eminem, 50 Cent, and Xzibit, highlighting the profound impact he has had on the music industry.
Dr. Dre’s illustrious career began with the groundbreaking group N.W.A., and he later achieved solo success with his 1992 album The Chronic. He founded Aftermath Entertainment in 1996, launching the careers of Eminem, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, and Anderson .Paak. In 2006, he co-founded Beats Electronics with Jimmy Iovine, which was acquired by Apple in 2014 for $3.2 billion, marking a significant milestone in his entrepreneurial endeavors.
In recognition of his contributions to music and culture, the Recording Academy and Black Music Collective established the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award in 2023. Additionally, Los Angeles City Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez declared March 19 as “Dre Day” in the city, further cementing his legacy.
