Brooklyn Celebrates Jefferson High School Tigers’ National Championship Victory
First NYC High School Team to Win in Over 20 Years
Downtown Brooklyn was alive with cheers and celebrations today as the city honored the Jefferson High School Tigers, winners of the National High School Basketball Championship. Thousands lined the streets for a parade featuring the team, school band, and city officials.
Historic Victory
The Tigers clinched the title in an overtime thriller, defeating the defending champions 78-76. This marks the first national championship for a New York City high school team in over two decades.
“This is not just a win for us but for all of Brooklyn,” said team captain Jamal Thompson. “We did this together.”

Mayor Eric Adams awarded the team the Key to the City, calling their triumph “a testament to New York’s talent and determination.”
