Scranton Welcomes ‘The Office’-Themed Chili’s to Celebrate 20 Years of the Show
In a delightful nod to fans of the beloved series “The Office,” a new Chili’s restaurant is set to open in Dickson City, Pennsylvania—just a short drive from Scranton. This location is designed to evoke memories from the sitcom, incorporating themes and decor that evoke the mid-2000s charm seen in the show.
The Dundies: A Memorable Episode
The connection to “The Office” runs deep, particularly recalling the Season Two episode titled “The Dundies.” In this unforgettable episode, Michael Scott, portrayed by Steve Carell, hosts an awards show at a Chili’s. Pam Beesly, played by Jenna Fischer, humorously captured the audience’s hearts when she declared, “I feel God in this Chili’s tonight,” as she accepted her award for the “whitest sneakers.”
This comedic moment led Pam to be banned from Chili’s nationwide for an amusing on-screen mishap involving drink theft, a ban that the restaurant lifted in 2017, allowing the character to return to her favorite establishment.
Chili’s Restaurant Details
The upcoming Chili’s will feature decor reminiscent of the series, including vintage signs and chalkboard art, creating a nostalgic atmosphere for fans. It will also wink at the fictitious Dunder Mifflin paper company with themed elements throughout the venue. One of the highlights for visitors will be the return of the “Awesome Blossom,” a menu item featured in the show that has been discontinued at Chili’s locations nationwide but will be resurrected at this restaurant.
Grand Opening and Promotions
The grand opening event is scheduled for April 7, coinciding with the release of a special “Scranton Marg,” available nationwide for that day only. In addition, several cast members from “The Office,” including Brian Baumgartner and Kate Flannery, are participating in commercials to promote this unique Chili’s restaurant.
Baumgartner, who played the endearing accountant Kevin Malone, expressed enthusiasm about the new location, stating, “It seems like a wrong was righted here at around the 20th anniversary of the show to finally have a Scranton branch of Chili’s.”
