LOS ANGELES, CA — Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has stormed the global box office, amassing over $572 million worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing installment in Legendary Pictures MonsterVerse franchise. The films success underscores the enduring appeal of cinematic titans and marks a significant milestone for the series.

Released on March 29, 2024, the film debuted with an impressive $80 million in North American theaters, surpassing initial projections of $50–55 million. Internationally, it garnered an additional $114 million, bringing its global opening weekend total to $194 million—the largest of the year at that point.

This performance marked the second-best domestic opening for the MonsterVerse, trailing only 2014s Godzilla, which opened with $93.2 million.

Beyond its opening weekend, The New Empire maintained strong box office momentum. As of June 2024, the film had grossed $196.3 million domestically and $375.5 million internationally, totaling $571.8 million worldwide.

The films international success was bolstered by significant earnings in markets such as China ($132.4 million), Mexico ($33.7 million), and the United Kingdom ($18.1 million).

While critics offered mixed reviews, with a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences responded more favorably. The film received an A− CinemaScore and a 96% positive score on PostTrak, indicating strong word-of-mouth and audience satisfaction.

The success of The New Empire has paved the way for future installments in the MonsterVerse. A sequel, titled Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, is slated for release on March 26, 2027, with production currently underway in Queensland, Australia.

As the MonsterVerse continues to expand, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire stands as a testament to the enduring popularity of these iconic creatures and their cinematic legacy.
