Hulk Hogan to Open $7M ‘Slam’ Sports Bar Across from Madison Square Garden

by NY Review Contributor

Wrestling icon Hulk Hogan is set to make a significant mark on New York City’s hospitality scene with the upcoming launch of “Slam,” a $7 million, 9,000-square-foot sports bar located directly across from Madison Square Garden (MSG). Scheduled to open in the fall of 2025, the venue aims to celebrate Hogan’s storied wrestling career and his deep-rooted connection to MSG.

Situated at 461 8th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, “Slam” will occupy a prime location formerly home to Brother Jimmy’s BBQ. The establishment is a collaborative effort between Hogan and New York nightlife veteran Rich Rosen, who serves as President and CEO of Scores Sports Bars. Rosen, inspired by Hogan’s legendary status and his history with MSG, approached the wrestling star with the concept after waiting in line for hours at an autograph signing event. He presented Hogan with a photo of the venue’s location, emphasizing its proximity to MSG, and proposed the idea of partnering on the project. Hogan responded positively, leading to the formation of a licensing agreement that allows the use of his name and branding for the bar.

“Slam” is designed to be a three-level establishment, featuring a rooftop bar and a capacity to host up to 300 patrons. The interior will be adorned with memorabilia from Hogan’s wrestling career, including large screens showcasing his most iconic matches and moments. A standout feature will be a replica of MSG’s ceiling and a central Jumbotron, aiming to immerse visitors in the atmosphere of the famed arena. Additionally, the bar will serve Hogan’s signature “Real American Beer,” further integrating his personal brand into the experience.

Hogan’s relationship with Madison Square Garden is a significant aspect of his wrestling legacy. He made his WWE debut at MSG in 1979, captured his first WWE Championship there in 1984 by defeating the Iron Sheik, and headlined the inaugural WrestleMania in 1985. These milestones have cemented MSG as a pivotal venue in Hogan’s career, making the location of “Slam” particularly meaningful.

Beyond “Slam,” Hogan continues to expand hibs usiness ventures. His “Real American Beer” brand has gained traction, and reports indicate that the company is in discussions to acquire the intellectual property of Hooters following the restaurant chain’s bankruptcy. This move would further diversify Hogan’s portfolio and extend his influence in the hospitality industry.

While Hogan does not hold an ownership stake in “Slam,” his involvement through the licensing deal and anticipated regular appearances at the bar are expected to draw fans and patrons. The combination of nostalgic wrestling elements, strategic location, and Hogan’s personal brand positions “Slam” as a potential hotspot for both wrestling enthusiasts and the general public.

As the opening date approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a unique addition to New York City’s vibrant bar scene. With its homage to wrestling history and connection to one of the sport’s most iconic figures, “Slam” is poised to offer an experience that resonates with fans and newcomers alike.
