New York City, November 12, 2024 – The New York Philharmonic has announced an exciting gift for city residents this holiday season: a series of free concerts in all five boroughs during December. Featuring a program of seasonal classics and collaborations with local choirs and youth orchestras, the series promises to bring the joy of music to communities across the city.

“This is our gift to the city that inspires us every day,” said conductor Gustavo Dudamel. “We are thrilled to share the magic of music with New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds, creating memories that will last well beyond the holiday season.”

The first concert in the series is set to take place on December 1 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, with additional performances scheduled at venues in Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island throughout the month. Each concert will feature beloved holiday pieces as well as special performances by local talent, highlighting the city’s rich cultural diversity and artistic spirit.

In keeping with the Philharmonic’s mission to make music accessible to all, tickets for the concerts will be available through a lottery system. Interested attendees can register online, and winners will be notified in advance. This approach ensures that as many New Yorkers as possible have the opportunity to enjoy the performances.

The announcement has already generated excitement among music lovers and community leaders. “The New York Philharmonic’s free holiday concert series is a wonderful way to bring people together during this festive season,” said Karen Lopez, a Queens resident and choir director whose group will perform at one of the concerts. “It’s an honor to collaborate with such a renowned institution and share the stage with these incredible musicians.”

In addition to spreading holiday cheer, the concert series underscores the Philharmonic’s commitment to engaging with the city’s neighborhoods and fostering a deeper appreciation for classical music. By performing in venues outside of Lincoln Center, the orchestra is reaching audiences who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend a concert.

As December approaches, anticipation for the free concert series is growing, with many viewing it as a highlight of the holiday season. For New Yorkers, the chance to enjoy world-class performances close to home is a gift that reflects the city’s vibrant arts community and enduring love for music.
