The 62nd annual New York Film Festival (NYFF) kicked off on October 4, 2024, at Lincoln Center, drawing an international crowd of filmmakers, stars, and cinema enthusiasts. The opening night film, a highly anticipated drama by Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao, earned a standing ovation from the audience and set the tone for what promises to be a captivating festival.
“This festival is a celebration of storytelling, creativity, and the power of film to connect us all,” said Dennis Lim, NYFF Artistic Director. The lineup includes over 100 films, ranging from global premieres to restored classics, as well as documentaries addressing timely issues such as climate change and social justice.
Beyond the screenings, the festival features Q&A sessions with directors and actors, industry panels on the future of filmmaking, and a special tribute to Spike Lee for his contributions to cinema. Emerging filmmakers from NYC and beyond are also being showcased in the festival’s “New Voices” section.
Film buffs and industry insiders alike expressed excitement about this year’s diverse programming, which reflects the festival’s commitment to amplifying voices from all corners of the world. The NYFF continues through October 15, cementing its reputation as a cornerstone of New York City’s cultural calendar.
