Staten Island Ferry Terminal Shines Bright with Holiday Light Display
December 12, 2024
Staten Island’s newly renovated ferry terminal has become a beacon of holiday cheer with the unveiling of its stunning holiday light display. The festive transformation features a 20-foot illuminated Christmas tree, dazzling light projections on the terminal’s ceiling, and the sounds of classic holiday music filling the space.
“This terminal is not just a transit hub—it’s a community gathering space,” said Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella at the unveiling. The initiative aims to bring joy to commuters and residents alike, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere during the holiday season.
The centerpiece of the display is the towering Christmas tree, adorned with hundreds of twinkling lights and shimmering ornaments. Positioned prominently within the terminal, the tree immediately draws the attention of travelers as they step inside. Surrounding the tree, colorful light projections dance across the ceiling, creating a magical winter wonderland effect.
Commuters passing through the terminal have praised the effort, noting that the festive decor has brought a sense of holiday spirit to their daily routines. “It’s such a nice surprise to see something so beautiful during my commute,” said one Staten Island resident. “It makes the season feel more special.”
In addition to the visual display, the terminal is filled with the sounds of holiday classics, enhancing the festive mood for visitors of all ages. The combination of lights, music, and decorations has turned the terminal into more than just a place to catch a ferry—it’s now a holiday destination in its own right.
The holiday display is part of a broader effort to reimagine the Staten Island Ferry Terminal as a space that goes beyond transportation. Borough President Fossella emphasized the importance of creating public spaces that foster a sense of community and joy, especially during the holiday season.
The light display will remain in place through early January, giving residents and visitors plenty of time to stop by and enjoy the festive transformation. Whether commuting, visiting family, or simply exploring the city, travelers are encouraged to take a moment to appreciate the holiday magic at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.
